Floral Mysteries Solved
Environmental educator Lisa Reichenberger from Old Westbury Gardens will present a one-hour visual lecture “Unravelling Nature’s Patterns” at 1:30 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. View the outdoors with an artist’s eye as the mystery behind nature’s patterns is unraveled. Enjoy a guided look into how and why natural aesthetics attract attention, calm emotions and aid survival in backyard gardens. See how patterns in nature affect us and the nature around them. Free museum passes to Old Westbury Gardens are available to Garden City Public Library cardholders in good standing through the generosity of the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. This public program is funded by Friends of the Library. Garden City residents will be given priority by presenting your Garden City Public Library card at the program room door. Nonresidents will be accommodated on a space available basis 10 minutes before showtime. No saved seats. Please, no buses. Girls Who Code Club
The Girls Who Code Club will offer computer science education and technical skill development to girls in sixth through 12th grade. The club meets on Saturday afternoons from 2 to 4:45 p.m. in the computer lab on the lower level of the library, located at 60 Seventh St. Meetings will continue on May 30 and June 6 and 13. Each lesson will build upon the previous lesson so attendance at each meeting is strongly encouraged. No prior experience in coding or programming is necessary. The girls will learn basic coding and programming including variables, loops and conditionals. There is no cost to participate in the club but the club size is limited to the first 20 girls who register. Register at www.gardencitypl.org. Cathedral of the Incarnation—service at 9 a.m. Parade begins at 10 a.m. at Eleventh Street and Franklin Avenue and west on to Seventh Street. The Garden City Public Library and village hall will be closed.

Betsy Gulotta To Speak On Native Plants
Betsy Gulotta, biology professor emeritus from Nassau Community College, will give a presentation at the Garden City Public Library at 7:30 p.m. This event will take place at the beginning of the next meeting of the Garden City Environmental Advisory Board. Her presentation is entitled “Grow Native | Live Native.” It will include information on how native plants are different and their benefits and roles in the ecosystem and in your gardens. Her talk is part of the 2015 lecture series arranged by the Garden City Environmental Advisory Board. It is free and open to the public. In addition to her position at Nassau Community College, Gulotta is currently working as conservation project manager for Friends of the Hempstead Plains. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. •Support group for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for women post treatment will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for young women with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
•Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
•A telephone support group for women with breast cancer will be held weekly for eight weeks from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. The shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum.
