Garden City High School Ranked #1 On Long Island

Tops U.S. News & World Report’s list of

Best American High Schools

“I am so proud,” Garden City High School Principal Nanine McLaughlin commented enthusiastically about U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best American High Schools” rankings released on May 12. Garden City High School was ranked first on Long Island, third in New York State for regular, open enrollment (non-magnet or charters) high schools, and ranked 90th of all high schools in the nation. Only two Long Island regular, open enrollment high schools, Garden City and Jericho, made the top 100 schools nationally. Many included on the list, which utilizes a four-part metric to rank schools, were magnet and charter schools—schools that have the option of selecting students for admissions.

“At Garden City High School, we have worked diligently to improve our academic performance in recent years,” continued Principal McLaughlin. “This has been a total school effort. Our staff, students, parents and community have made this honor a reality. We will continue to strive for excellence. We are committed to preparing our students for success. We greatly appreciate the support of our central administration and board of education.”
