The Jackson Avenue PTA conducted an essay contest for the conclusion of its Reading Rocks! 2015 Parents As Reading Partners program, with Yardan Mahmood and Karleigh Davis taking home first prize. The students were writing for a chance to win a grand prize of either a Fender Squier guitar or a Casio keyboard along with music lessons, all generously donated by Michael George Russo of Beyond Rock.
The students’ essays included why they deserved to win an instrument, how they will take care of it and why learning to play an instrument was so important to them. Their reading partners were also asked to write an essay on how they will support their child in learning to play.
