Girls Who Code Club

The Girls Who Code Club will offer computer science education and technical skill development to girls in sixth through 12th grade. The club will meet on Saturday afternoons from 2 to 4:45 p.m. in the computer lab on the lower level of the library, located at 60 Seventh St. Meetings will continue on June 13. Each lesson will build upon the previous lesson so attendance at each meeting is strongly encouraged. The curriculum includes monthly project-based activities and the opportunity to build real-world software including mobile apps and games. No prior experience in coding or programming is necessary. The girls will learn basic coding and programming including variables, loops and conditionals. There is no cost to participate in the club but the club size is limited to the first 20 girls who register. Please register at www.gardencitypl.org. Registered participants will be expected to attend all sessions. Please bring your library card with you to each meeting. Marvelous Movie Matinée

A screening of the 1951 Vincente Minnelli musical An American in Paris starring Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, and Oscar Levant will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. Coffee & Tea By The Book

In person registration began on Tuesday, May 19 at 9:30 a.m. for Coffee & Tea by the Book to be held at 10 a.m. Librarians Laura Flanagan and Ann Garnett will moderate a discussion of Lisa Scottoline’s Every Fifteen Minutes. You can pick up a book when you register at the reference desk.
