Plainedge Middle School and Nassau BOCES are pleased to announce that Anthony DeRiso, principal of Plainedge Middle School was the recent recipient of the Administrator of the Year Award.
DeRiso instituted a period of “App Sharing” every month to allow teachers to share the apps they use and how they are using them. He has supported the district’s “iPad User Day” held in the Plainedge Middle School Library Media Center, of which he has been a steadfast supporter of. DeRiso’s nominator praised the success of his efforts as a supporter of the 21st Century Learner, stating that he sees the value in project-based, free-form learning and research.
Deirdre Reddington from Uniondale High School was also named as the winner of the School Librarian of the Year Award.
Reddington focuses on providing a library program that is meaningfully connected to the curriculum, emphasizes the value of reading and integrates technology. She also teaches in-service courses, coordinates the iBook Author training, mentors new librarians, supervises a graduate library student, supports the Yearbook staff and serves as a building technology mentor. Her nominator stated that Reddington coordinated a very successful author/illustrator night, that brought more than 40 Long Island authors/illustrators to the school.
Both winners were honored at the NBSLS Awards and Liaison Meeting held at the Robert E. Lupinskie Center in Westbury.
