More than 100 awards from both community organizations and the Plainedge Public School were bestowed to dozens of graduating seniors at the Plainedge High School 33rd annual Scholastic Awards Dinner.

Principal Robert Amster and Plainedge Superintendent Dr. Edward J. Salina, Jr., led the opening remarks before students were presented with their awards from community presenters, guidance counselors and administrators. Some organizations that presented awards to the seniors included the American Legion Post 1066, The Columbus Lodge—Sons of Italy, The Kiwanis Club of Massapequa and the United States Marine Corp.

Robert Barret, vice-president of the Massapequa Chamber of Commerce, praised the community for their outpouring of support in the wake of the shooting death of Plainedge alumni and NYPD Officer Brian Moore in May. Other presenters also made reference to Moore during their presentation, making for an emotional tribute to the late alum.

Verdel Jones, Plainedge director of guidance and support services, served as the emcee for the evening as Plainedge’s seniors demonstrated one more act of pride before embarking on their college careers.
