Shaun Mara of East Northport was the proud winner of the 2015 Detective Brian Moore Memorial Award. Mara was the first law enforcement officer to cross the finish line of the 2015 David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run. He finished with a time of 18:31, scoring as the seventh runner overall.
It was especially fitting that Mara should win this award, as he is an NYPD Detective Sergeant assigned to the 107th Precinct Detective Squad. Mara has been a Sergeant for 11 years and has been on the force for a total of 17 years. He was previously assigned to the 105th Precinct Detective Squad where Moore was tragically killed.
In addition to his connection to Moore through the 105th Precinct, Mara was also partners with Moore’s cousin Ronald Moore, a former member of NYPD and current Nassau County Police Officer. Mara and Ronald Moore have remained friends since their days in the same police academy recruit class.
Accepting his award with great pride, Mara announced that his win of the Detective Brian Moore Memorial Award was an honor for him that he intends to share with the Moore family.
