Oyster Bay Historical Society Concert

Movie At The Library
See McFarland, USA at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library, 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Inspired by the 1987 true story, the movie follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White, a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Join the club in the green room of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, where children can build whatever they can imagine. All Lego creations will remain in the library. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration. From 10 a.m. to noon.

Music Under The Stars
The Village of Bayville’s recreation committee organizes weekly concerts on Friday nights, another place to enjoy live local music outdoors in July and August. The Music Under the Stars concert series begins July 10 and takes place every Friday from 8 to 10 p.m. at West Harbor Memorial Park, 10 West Harbor Dr. in Bayville.
The free concerts are open to both residents of Bayville as well as nonresidents. Bring a blanket or beach chair; you might also want to pack a picnic so you can sit back, relax, have a bite to eat and listen to some great musicians. The musical lineup has yet to be determined, but the summer concert dates for this year are planned through Aug. 21. In case of inclement weather, cancellations will be posted on the village’s website at www.bayvilleny.gov.

Dancing In The Streets
The Friday night dancing series continues this week at the bandstand on Audrey Avenue. Mark James, assisted by Karen Lupo, are a full-time professional dancing couple who also have a large following on Long Island. They will be gracing the stage (also known as the street) on July 10 and 24. They have been featured performers at many dance competitions and on PBS. From salsa to hustle, from elegant to upbeat, with some Sinatra, pop and swing thrown in—James will wow audiences with his style and quickly inspire all to join in.

Mad Hatter Tea Party
Join in on this year’s One Town, One Book: Oyster Bay Reads by coming to the library to make a special Mad Hatter hat and cookies before watching Alice in Wonderland in the Community Room. No registration. All ages; children must be accompanied by an adult). Make a craft from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Movie goes from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
