Residents are invited to take a stand against crime at this year’s National Night Out, an annual event that focuses on anti-crime efforts, crime and drug-prevention, and strengthening the bonds between police and the community. Festivities take place Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The event kicks off with a parade, starting at 5 p.m. at the Salvation Army on 992 Prospect Ave. in Westbury. Activities begin at 6 p.m. at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park, located at Broadway and Swalm Street in Westbury.
“National Night Out is a unique event and opportunity for local residents and law enforcement to get together in a celebratory atmosphere,” said Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “The evening helps to bring awareness to local anti-crime efforts, while also celebrating our community.”
National Night Out is organized with support from the Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County and North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center—The Leeds Place, as well as local businesses and organizations in the community and in surrounding areas. The event is sponsored by Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) as well as Applebee’s, who will be providing food for attendees.
Taking place in communities around the country, National Night Out focuses on building safer communities, in part by crime and drug-prevention awareness and building better relationships between police and the community. The event offers information about health provider services and educational resources. It also features musical performances, free giveaways, refreshments and more.
