South High Staff Judged Best in NY

south high (1)Great Neck South High School has the best high school teachers in New York and the second best in the country, according to Niche.com. The website ranked the schools according to key teaching statistics, which try to decipher which are the most innovative teachers. It also tried to discover whether the school provided the teachers with the appropriate educational environment.

The website ranked 5,886 public high schools and gave more than 900,000 teacher ratings, which were provided from parents and students.

On the grading criteria, Great Neck South received a 4.4 out of 5 on 19 responses from parents and students. They received the top ranking in the academic grade area, too. Great Neck South’s average teacher salary is $100,000, and the teacher absenteeism percent was only 4.5; this was based on teachers missing more than 10 days for sick and personal reasons. The school’s student-teacher ratio is 12:1, based on full-time teachers.

Out of all the criteria, survey responses carry the most weight at 30 percent. Academic grades are second at 25 percent, followed by average teacher salary at 20 percent. Teacher absenteeism and student-teacher ratio finish off the list, with 10 and 5 percent, respectively.

Great Neck South was also featured as one of the best facilities in New York public high schools—ranking eighth. It was also number three in best outcomes, which evaluates SAT/ACT and AP scores.
