The Mineola School District announced Mineola resident Diane Anderson, a former administrator from Farmingdale, will serve as interim principal for the Hampton Street School starting Sept. 4. She succeeds Devra Small, who recently accepted an administrative position at the North Shore School District.
“The district would like to welcome Diane Anderson,” the school district said on its website.
“The board [of education] and [School Superintendent] Dr. [Michael] Nagler have decided to hire an interim thereby allowing for a more timely search for a replacement in the spring,” the Mineola website statement said. “Ms. Anderson will officially begin on Sept. 4, but will be around the district before that date in order to welcome teachers, parents and students for the start of school.”
Anderson will temporarily replace Small, a mainstay in Mineola, who was appointed as director of elementary humanities in the North Shore School District on Thursday, Aug. 6. The central office position in Sea Cliff runs four years until Aug. 10, 2019 for Small.
“As always, I encourage you to read with your child nearly every day and ensure that your child reads as well,” she said in her principal’s message to students on the Mineola school district website in June.“Please make reading an enjoyable part of your child’s summer routine, and engage your child in conversations about books and about your shared experiences during the summer.”
Nagler said in August that an interim appointment, in this case Anderson, would not be excluded from the interview process for the full-time spot in the summer of 2016.
