A Vegetable To Be Proud Of

It’s not only important to eat your vegetables, it’s also important to show them off. Hicks Nurseries recently held its first ever Summer Harvest Competition on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the nursery in Westbury. Linda Notarnicola of North Massapequa took home top prizes for her fruits and veggies.

  Contestants entered their homegrown tomatoes, eggplant, squash, peppers and other vegetables for the chance to win bragging rights and a gift card from Hicks Nurseries. Notarnicola won both the “Heaviest Tomato” and “Funniest Looking Vegetable” categories. Her tomato weighed in at 2 pounds, 8 ounces.
