St. Peter’s School is ready for the upcoming school year, which officially began on Wednesday, Sept. 2, for the kindergarten through eighth grades, and begins Thursday, Sept. 9, for the Little Learners (twos, preschool and prekindergarten) programs.
A lot has happened over the summer at St. Peter’s. Principal Robert Windorf, faculty, staff and volunteers were hard at work. The summer technology project has been completed, resulting in state-of-the-art computers and technology in every classroom. “The technology labs in the upper and lower schools have been revamped and all new computers have been purchased,” said Principal Windorf. “The school’s wiring has been upgraded and we have Wi-Fi.”
The growing Little Learners program has become so popular that the dedicated administration and faculty of St. Peter’s have worked overtime, preparing a new classroom for the additional preschool class added to meet the demand.
St. Peter’s welcomes two new teachers this year. Alissa Oko will be the new grade 6 homeroom teacher and will be the science and health teacher for grades 6 through 8. Oko is formally trained in STM (science, math and technology) and will be a great addition as St. Peter’s looks to expand its STEM curricula.
Maureen Cummings will be joining the St. Peter’s Little Learners program as lead teacher of the twos program. She has been active as a teacher in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, and was most recently at Notre Dame in New Hyde Park.
Central to St. Peter’s School is a sense of family and friends among the students and parents and the fall has plenty of opportunities for parents to get out and socialize.
All are invited to the Fall Golf Outing, held this year at the Village Club of Sands Point on Thursday, Sept. 17. Dads Nights Out will start soon and moms can look forward to the Ladies Evening at Plandome Country Club later this fall.
St. Peter’s welcomes all in our community to “Share the Spirit” and become a part of the St. Peter’s family. If you would like any information about St. Peter’s Little Learners and school or would like to schedule a tour, please call 516-944-3772 or go to www.stpeterspw.org.
