Atria of Roslyn Harbor is the home base for a foods program administered by the always-popular Meals on Wheels organization. Atria provides the foodstuffs for Meals on Wheels, whose volunteers then deliver them to locations all over Nassau County.
Recently, Assemblyman Charles Lavine, who represents the Roslyn area in Albany, met with Glen Cove resident Adam Levine to present him with a citation for his courage and patriotism, for singing the national anthem at a Mets game and for volunteering in community services such as Meals on Wheels.
Levine has performed the National Anthem at the beginning of a Mets home game once in each of the past six years. When he performed on Aug. 5, he again received a thundering ovation.
Levine was born with Down syndrome, but he continues to pursue his passion of music. He performs the National Anthem each morning at Nassau County AHRC, which provides numerous services for adults and children with disabilities.
“The fact that Mr. Levine is disabled took nothing away from his performance,” said Assemblyman Lavine. “In fact, it adds an extra significance because each time that he steps up to the microphone, he is showing thousands of people what disabled people can accomplish if they are given a chance. Mr. Levine, by doing what he loves, has given people hope and a fresh perspective in regards to people with disabilities. That is certainly deserving of our recognition and appreciation.”
