Remembering Those Lost On 9/11

On Friday, Sept. 11, members of the Floral Park community gathered to pay their respect and honor the memories of the lives lost 14 years ago in the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, at the village’s annual 9-11 Remembrance ceremony. The Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department served as Color Guard and the Holy Spirit Church Choir sang.

Mayor Thomas Tweedy delivered the welcoming speech and delivered the recitation of names, between the bell tolls of the United Methodist Church. Fire department chiefs and ex-chiefs placed roses on the name panels at the village’s relic memorial.

The following are the names of residents who perished in the 9/11 attacks and who are honored at the village’s memorial:

Keith George Fairben, an emergency medical technician with NYPH

William Thomas Dean, of Marsh & McLennan

Ryan D. Fitzgerald, of Fiduciary Trust Company International

Brian Magee, of Compaq     

Charles R. Mendez, a firefighter with FDNY’s Ladder 7

Robert M. Regan, a lieutenant with FDNY’s Ladder 118

Robert King, Jr., a firefighter who served with FDNY’s Engine 33

Howard G. Gelling, Jr., of Sandler O’Neill & Partners

Thomas J. Hetzel, a firefighter with FDNY’s Ladder 13

Ronald Philip Kloepfer, an officer with NYPD’s ESU Squad 7

Michelle Renee Bratton, of Cantor Fitzgerald

David Kraft, a bagpiper with the Nassau County Firefighters Pipes & Drum, performed Amazing Grace and Reverend Piotr Rozek, pastor of St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church delivered the closing prayer.
