Akropolis Reed Quinet

Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) is proud to present the acclaimed Akropolis Reed Quintet, the international Fischoff gold medal-winning performance group at 7:30 p.m. on the Westermann Stage of the Concert Hall at 1 South Ave. in Garden City. The program will consist of classics such as Gershwin’s jazz-inspired “Three Preludes” as well as modern day compositions like John Leszczynski’s “Variations in the Reeds.” Akropolis will also be performing two of their first commissions, “Fun Fun Fun Fun” and “High Speed Run.” Tickets are currently on sale and are priced at $30 and $25, with discounts available to seniors, students and alumni. Regular box office hours are Tuesday through Friday from 1-6 p.m. The box office is also open two hours before most scheduled performances.

Family Square Dance

From 1 to 2 p.m., the Garden City Public Library will be hosting a family square dance with Miss Donna and James Emory. This fun program is for children ages 2 ½ to 5 (not yet in kindergarten) and an adult caregiver. Registration began Monday, Sept. 21 on Eventkeeper. You must do a separate registration for each child you wish to attend the program. Please arrive promptly. If you are late, your spot may be given to someone on the wait list. Due to limited room capacity, only one child and one adult allowed per registration. Funding for this program was provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Marvelous Movie Matinée

A screening of the 2010 historical drama The King’s Speech starring Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. The event will be held in Meeting Room B. Funding is provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. For more information, call 516-742-8405.

Fraud Prevention Workshop

It happens every day. You receive a letter saying “You’ve won a free prize.” Learn how to protect yourself against the many fraud schemes that exist. The United States Postal Inspection Service will present this information sharing event at 2 p.m. in the large meeting room at the Garden City Public Library. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service will present information about lottery scams using USPS checks, reshipping scams, work-at-home offers, fake check scams, charity frauds, IRS scams, money transfer agency fraud, friend/romance fraud and more.
