The Mineola Junior Fire Department has been making an annual trip up to the Firemen’s Home at Hudson New York in the lower Catskill Mountains for the past 14 years, coinciding with the home’s Long Island Day.
Firefighters from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties were there to honor the firefighters living at the home on a sunny and pleasant day. After a short parade a presentation was given by the president of the Firemen’s Association of New York and the trustees of the home who come from all over the state representing their departments.
As in the past, the juniors were there to give a donation to the home.
The homes’ President David J. Blair was on hand to receive the donation from junior firefighters Captain Neal Ressa, Lieutenant Matteo Itri and Ex-Captain Nunzio Vetrone Junior firefighters from Nassau and Suffolk County were present to help celebrate and greet the residents of the home. The Director John O’Connell made it a point to state that the junior’s firefighters were the future of the volunteer fire service.
