Late Friday afternoon on Oct. 2, at approximately 4 p.m., a new model gold Honda Accord smashed into a pole on Shelter Rock Road and caused a power outage. The weather during the day was raw with steady rain and high winds. The force of the sedan’s impact split the pole in half and caused electricity to be shut down to the power in and around the area. Retail stores all along the south side of Northern Boulevard from Lord & Taylor down were darkened by the event. South Strathmore and Strathmore Village homes were also in the dark. Some households in the area did not have electricity restored until the next afternoon on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Police had Shelter Rock Road cordoned off traffic on Friday to move past the vicinity of the accident which was northbound on Shelter Rock Road by the Gracewood development. In a phone call to police officials, no comment was made as to the cause of the accident or the condition of the driver. It is not known if there were any passengers or if anyone was hurt. The police did acknowledge that there were no fatalities.
