Former New York Jet Joe Namath, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1985, hosted his 11th March of Dimes Celebrity Golf Classic on Thursday, Sept. 17, at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale.
This year, the “Broadway and Birdies for Babies” event raised nearly $1.2 million towards benefits for babies throughout Long Island.
The event attracted almost 100 entertainment and sports celebrities, including 30 members of the Hall of Fame from baseball, football, basketball and hockey. Altogether, there were nearly 500 attendees at the tournament.
ESPN sports anchor Chris Berman was the emcee for the evening program, which also featured a comedy act by George Lopez.
Namath has been a volunteer for the March of Dimes for years and has helped raise over $30 million for the organization since 1997 through the events he has led.
