The Floral Park Library Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Floral Park Public Library.

Professor Miriam Nyhan will be the speaker at the Irish Cultural Society meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Garden City Library, 60 Seventh St. The meeting is free and open to the public. Nyhan will speak about her research on Richard White’s history/memoir Remembering Ahanagran: A History of Stories.


Thursday, Oct. 15

The North End Civic Association will meet on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Reliance Fire House.


Saturday, Oct. 17

The 1st Annual Friends of Stewart Manor Flea Market has been rescheduled to Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the village parking lot at Chester and Covert avenues. Applications for tables are still being accepted at Stewart Manor Village Hall on weekdays during regular hours.

St. Elisabeth’s Episcopal Church at 6 Harvard St., in Floral Park, is holding its semiannual craft fair and flea market on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 46 vendors will present their wares—hand-made articles, crafts, white elephants, books, jewelry, new items, sports collectibles, antiques, etc. Vendors from Mary Kay and Avon will also be present. Refreshments available.


Monday, Oct. 19

Floral Park’s AARP Chapter #5224 will meet on Monday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at the recreation center. Senator Jack Martins will be the guest speaker.


Upcoming Events

The Village of Floral Park Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m. in the village hall courtroom, 1 Floral Blvd.

The Floral Park Woman’s Club will hold their autumn meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 12:30 p.m. at recreation center. The business meeting will follow refreshments. Police Commissioner Stephen McAllister will be the guest speaker. The evening department meeting, convenient for working ladies, will take place at the recreation center on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. New members welcome. Call Edna at 516-354-8818 for details.

The Hillcrest Civic Association will hold its meeting on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the recreation center.

The Floral Park Women’s Club will hold their Fun Nite Out on Oct. 23 at American Legion Post 334, 15 Elizabeth St. at 7 p.m. “Nite at Belmont” games will be held. You will enjoy hors d’oeuvres, desserts, wine, soda, coffee and tea. The donation is $15 to support the club’s scholarship fund. Call Maryann at 516-775-4793 by Oct. 20 for reservations.

The Andrew Burrous Best Buddy Foundation will host a showcase of musical talent benefiting the Olive Osmond Hearing Fund on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Plattduetsche Park Restaurant, at 1132 Hempstead Tpke. in Franklin Square. Donations help provide hearing aids to children. Admission includes music, dancing and singing showcase performances and a hot buffet. Raffle baskets and 50/50 chances will be available. Tickets are $50 per person, limited seating. No tickets sold day of event. Ongoing Programs

FISH Of Floral Park Provides free transportation to and from medical appointments for senior citizens who are residents of the Floral Park/Bellerose area and cannot afford cab fare or who have no other means of transportation. Should you or a loved one need transportation to a medical appointment, contact FISH at 516-835-9522 or telephone coordinator Fran Hornberger at 516-775-0740.

Women with metastatic breast cancer are invited to join a support group that meets on Thursdays, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The free group is a program of the Adelphi NY statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program and meets at the Adelphi University School of Social Work. The group is supported by a grant from the Alpern Family Foundation. To register, call Erin Nau, counseling and education coordinator, at 516-877-4314.

At the Bellerose Jewish Center, located at 254-04 Union Tpke., in Floral Park: free Jewish education for kindergarten and Sunday School children. A thorough religious curriculum with experienced teachers for third grade to their bar/bat mitzvah is also provided. Also, the Renaissance Group, a nonsectarian group of men and women who have lost a dear one meet. An exchange of ideas can be helpful. Call 718-343-9001 for the date of the next meeting.
