The bathrooms at Schreiber High School were closed and could not be used on Oct. 20 at approximately 9:35 a.m. Water pressure in the building was not functioning properly, according to a letter sent to parents from Schreiber Principal Ira Pernick. Students in need of a bathroom were routed to the Weber All Purpose Room. Students were escorted to and from Weber. The bathrooms reopened at 10:20 a.m.
According to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Mooney, “It was actually anticipated that bathrooms would be offline for several hours but staff were able to adjust existing equipment faster and bathrooms were available in less than an hour overall.”
Dr. Mooney continued, “There is a problem with water pressure that appears to emanate from the meter. A new meter has been ordered and will be installed in the near future. In the meantime there were other temporary steps our plumbers were able to take which restored the necessary pressure. We have also been in touch with the Water District to verify proper pressure coming on to the [school] district’s property. Backflow devices were adjusted to allow for more pressure.”
This is not the first time this has happened at Schreiber. On Oct. 13, bathroom and water fountains at Schreiber were not working. Dr. Mooney said, “We believe that the steps taken yesterday will provide the necessary pressure until the meter can be replaced.”
