Gabriela De Castro, a Senior Girl Scout from Troop 520 will be holding a beginner Spanish language workshop at Manhasset Public Library on Wednesdays, for her gold award project. The beginner Spanish workshop targets children ages 9 through 13, and each session will be dedicated to a specific topic (food, clothing, numbers, etc). The lessons will consist of an introductory presentation to the vocabulary to get the kids introduced to the subject with several stations that are intended to supplement the main lesson. There are auditory and visual learning queues as well.
As foreign language programs have been cut from many elementary schools, DeCastro’s project is an opportunity for elementary school children to be introduced to a foreign language, hopefully one that will spark their interest and encourage further study. The classes will be at Manhasset Public Library from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the children’s room on the third floor. Come to all five sessions. Sessions will be held on Oct. 28, Nov. 11, Nov. 16, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16.
