In an effort to heighten awareness, spark conversation and commemorate those who lost their lives to HIV/AIDS, the Massapequa School District will host a public viewing of the AIDS Memorial Quilt on Thursday, Dec. 3, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Massapequa High School Baldwin Auditorium.

The event is being held in close proximity to World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, and is part of the district’s annual HIV/AIDS Awareness Week, Nov. 30-Dec. 4. During this time, state-mandated, age-appropriate lessons will be taught to students in kindergarten through 12th grade.AIDS Quilt panel

Three quilt panels are being provided by the Names Project Foundation, the custodian of the 54-ton handmade tapestry that consists of more than 48,000 panels dedicated to more than 94,000 individuals. All community members are encouraged to attend this educational event and support the district’s ongoing efforts to ensure the health and safety of its students. Massapequa High School Peer AIDS Educators will be on hand to answer any questions.
