Schreiberplay112515AAccording to Director Christine Nelson and Producer Lauren Foster-Holzer, auditions are held the second week of school and they rehearse four or five days a week. “I was extremely proud of the cast of Our Town, they presented the subject matter with a level of maturity rarely seen in high school actors,” said Director Christine Nelson. “I decided to choose the play because it is probably the most famous American play written in the past 100 years. Having such a well-written piece makes my job as a director much easier. The story of the play is about the simple pleasures of life, such as family, community, daily routines, falling in love, marriage and finally death, all of which resonate deeply with audiences of any generation. In the end it leaves us with the message that we should pay more attention to our own lives and appreciate the people around us and not get so caught up in the rush of existence.”

Our Town has been called the finest play ever written by an American. Our Town, which first premiered in 1938 at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ, was written by acclaimed playwright Thornton Wilder. Schreiber students portrayed the residents of the fictional town Grover’s Corner in this turn-of-the-century production. The students performed the show three times over three days.

The Cow Neck Historical Society provided images that were displayed in the Schreiber lobby that reflect the rich history of Port Washington.
