Students were interested in the ultraviolet disinfection system, anaerobic digesters, microturbine systems and a recently completed oxidation ditch, studying the plant with an eye towards promoting similar systems throughout the rest of Long Island and the country.
Great Neck Water Pollution Control District Superintendent Chris Murphy (right) spoke to more than 20 Manhattan College environmental science and engineering students about the importance of wastewater treatment and the Great Neck Water Pollution Control District’s ongoing green initiatives. The district invited students to tour the plant as part of its educational outreach program to help students learn how similar green technology can be implemented throughout Long Island.
