Come in out of the cold and enjoy the first signs of spring at Hicks Nurseries’ Flower & Garden Show in Westbury. The 26th annual show features expertly designed gardens that celebrate the unique landscapes of the United States. Free and indoors, the show is open through Sunday, March 20.

“Gardens can be as diverse as the landscape of our great country,” said Nelson Demarest, visual merchandising manager of Hicks Nurseries. “The gardens of our 2016 flower show demonstrate how homeowners can easily create the look of their favorite vacation destinations here in their Long Island garden.”

IMG 0210b e1457459011678The Southeast Garden display pays tribute to the lush, tropical romance you find in the city of New Orleans. A balconied building canopied with Boston ferns and hanging Spanish moss sets the scene. Towering palm trees and colorful foliage plants surround a courtyard that features a grand fountain. Stroll through this garden and embrace the charm of the south.

The Pacific Northwest has some of the most beautiful gardens anywhere. The display is centered around a towering waterfall flanked with large evergreens. The restful design features a contemplative Zen garden you can recreate in your own backyard. The artistic influence of the Seattle area is also reflected in this garden.

IMG_0175bSouthwestern inspired gardens are not out of the question here on Long Island. This display shows how adding elements of texture and color can create the impression of the southwest in your garden. Beautiful succulent plants add texture and color to the design, which is built around a stone fire pit and rustic arbor.

Feel at home as you stroll through the Northeast Garden. This family presentation is bursting with colorful annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs. A cedar shingled cottage is the centerpiece of the display, which helps you visualize how you can beautifully landscape your own home.

After visiting the gardens, take one of the nursery’s 20 free seminars about popular gardening concepts including organic lawn care, container gardening, pruning and more. Planting workshops for children and adults will also be available including the children’s pea seed planting. For a list of activities and events, visit www.hicksnurseries.com.

The 26th annual Flower & Garden Show, which runs through March 20, is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
