Massapequa Budget Adoption
The Massapequa Public Schools budget adoption meeting will take place in the high school’s Baldwin Auditorium, beginning at 8 p.m.

Movie: Brooklyn
The Bar Harbour auditorium library will show a 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. screening of the movie Brooklyn. The emotional tale of Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), a young Irish immigrant building a new life in 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland for the shores of New York City and is soon swept up by the intoxicating charms of new love. But when her new life is disrupted by her past, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within. Starring Saoirse Ronan, Emory Cohen and Domhnall Gleeson. Beginners Canasta       
Learn Canasta with Jacqui Palatnik. Pre-registration is required. From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Bar Harbour children’s room.

Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic
The Town of Oyster Bay will hold a free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The clinic, which is conducted in conjunction with the Nassau County Department of Health and the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, will take place at the Town Animal Shelter, 150 Miller Place, Syosset. Personnel from the animal shelter will be on hand to help deal with the large number of animals expected and to assist residents interested in adopting a dog or cat. No reservations are necessary for the clinic. For more information, contact the town’s Animal Shelter at 516-677-5784.

Adopt-A-Battalion Soldier’s Drive
Come help put care packages together for troops overseas. Looking for personal care items, seasonings and hot sauces and items other than candy. From 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Island Knight of Columbus Council, 2 Eastgate Rd., Massapequa Park.

Monday, April 11
Mandated Reporter Classes
YES Community Counseling Center is approved by the New York State Department of Education to provide the state’s two-hour certification training for mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect. Individuals seeking employment or certification in the education or health care fields may be required to complete this course. Training till be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 75 Grand Ave., Massapequa. Come in and enjoy a game of Scrabble from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Bar Harbour meeting room.

Teen Takeover Mondays
Every Monday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., teens get to take over the auditorium. Enjoy open play with video games on Wii U and XBOX 360, play Minecraft, check out the collection of board games and hang out with friends every Monday in the Bar Harbour auditorium. Contemporary Book Club
This month’s selection is Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult. Discuss from 12:30 to 3 p.m. in the Bar Harbour auditorium.

Prostate Screening
Open to all men age 40 and older who have not been previously diagnosed with prostate cancer, regardless of whether they have insurance. Screenings will include a PSA blood test. Must bring photo ID containing an address (such as a driver’s license). Patients must bring a self addressed, stamped envelope to be notified of PSA test results. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. From 4 to 6 p.m. in the Bar Harbour auditorium. Sponsored by Senator Michael Venditto. The library’s writing group for senior citizens will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Bar Harbour children’s room. All are welcome.

AARP Defensive Driving

 


Come gt a discount on your insurance. Fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. Payment is by check or money order made out to AARP. A separate check must be submitted for each person taking the class. Class size is limited. Register at the Reference Desk at either the Bar Harbour or Central Avenue building. The Late Movie: Everest
In this adventure docudrama set in 1996, several groups of professional climbers successfully scale Mount Everest only to be faced with tragedy when a monster storm surprises them as they attempt to make their descent. Summer Reading Program Volunteers Needed    
Applications for the Plainedge Library’s summer reading program are now available in the children’s department for  Plainedge School district students entering grades 6 and up. No previous volunteer experience necessary. Community service credit furnished upon request. In order to effectively schedule volunteers in time for the summer, all applications need to be submitted to a children’s librarian by Friday, May 13 the latest, no exceptions.
