April is Autism Awareness Month, so get ready to see puzzle pieces and blue ribbons. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterized by verbal and non-verbal communication, impaired social interaction and restricted and repetitive behavior. Parents begin to notice symptoms in their child the first two year’s of childhood. Communities, business and schools across Long Island are holding charity events, fundrasiers, and dedicating their merchandise, whether it be a T-shirt or cupcake, in honor of autism awareness.
