The Westbury Memorial Public Library recently welcomed Scott Cooper to its board of trustees. The Westbury resident was elected to the board during the elections earlier this month. “I’m extremely excited to have the chance to work with people on the board who have done a wonderful job of being shepherds of a great community asset,” Cooper said. “It’s nice to see how engaged people are in making this a great resource.”
Cooper takes over for Pete May, who stepped down after 13 years on the board. May often told Cooper about his time on the board and talked to him about running.
“Pete is a friend of mine, who has been on the board a while. He often talked about his participation there,” Cooper said. “That’s where my interest started.”
A Westbury resident since 2007, Cooper said his family has used the library often. Cooper said he’s excited to help improve the library, which he called a great community resource.
“I think the library itself has such an opportunity to provide a great resource in terms of electronics and knowledge people can gain there,” Cooper said. “The ability to influence that and work with a team that’s driving that forward was very interesting to me.”
