Women Golfers Honor Centennial Year

On Wednesday, April 13, the women golfers of North Hempstead Country Club traveled back in time and took to the course dressed as golfers from the 1920s. Wearing knickers, argyle socks and caps, or long flowing skirts and cloche hats, the women played a 9-hole scramble and marked the opening of the golf season in the club’s centennial year. Dressing for the occasion was only part of the fun, however. On one hole the women were invited to tee off using a hickory club and a golf ball, representative of the era in which the club had its start. For some players, use of the old-fashioned equipment was mandatory in a longest drive contest. New member Kristen Ryan, and reigning club champion Sara Tasnady, prevailed. It was a great start to a year-long celebration of North Hempstead’s Centennial.
