In 2014, the Town of North Hempstead completed a 1.25 mile coastal nature trail along Hempstead Harbor. This hidden gem has been a wonderful start to rehabilitating the area and providing hardworking families a healthy way to spend time together. The trail starts at the Varsity Crew building at the old Bar Beach in Port Washington and meanders southward towards Roslyn. It’s a wonderful place for a serene walk, jog or bike ride and is pet-friendly (leashed).
The town is now seeking grants to extend the trail and create additional parking at the south end. However, constituents need to express to Governor Cuomo the importance of this coastal nature trail to our area. An extended trail would not only provide families with much needed public access to coastal recreation but would also promote conservation of local wildlife and wetlands.
Please consider emailing Governor Cuomo at www.governor.ny.gov/contact to help fund this project so the town can break ground this fall!
When completing the fill-in menu, please insert “Long Island” for “Area” and “Town of North Hempstead, Hempstead Harbor Coastal Trail Extension” for “Topic.”
