The final budget meeting before the annual budget vote and trustee election on May 17 was held at Roslyn High School on May 5. Assistant Superintendent for Business Joe Dragone reviewed the final budget numbers and said it was the eighth year in a row that Roslyn’s budget has been below the tax levy limit imposed by the state. The 2016-17 school budget will increase by 1.2 percent and the projected tax levy will increase 0.31 percent in the budget.
“Over the last eight years, including projections for next year, the school tax levy has risen an average of 1.1 percent per year,” said Dragone.
He added that the tax levy increase of 0.31 percent is below the Long Island average increase of .58 percent.
The final budget number for the district is $105,097,968. There will be no staff or program reductions in the budget.
In other news:World Language and ESL Chair Karina Baez, will be promoted to the position of assistant superintendent of Curriculum and Instructionm beginning July 1. She will share the position with current Assistant Superintendent Michael Goldspiel.
On Wednesday, May 12, the Third Precinct’s POP (Problem Oriented Police) unit will hold a special meeting at the Town of Oyster Bay’s Community Center located at 200 Glen Head Rd. in Glen Head at 7 p.m. The meeting will be focused on the POP’s responsibilities and influence in the community and everyone in the community is invited to come. The POP units were lost because of budget cuts two years ago but have made a reappearance thanks to an improvement in county finances.
The annual budget vote and trustee election will take place on Tuesday, May 17, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Roslyn High School.
