East Broadway Elementary School first-graders received an up-close visit from birds housed at the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown. During a presentation by specialist Eric Young, the students observed resident and non-releasable birds from the center, such as Henrietta the chicken and a screech owl. After taking a closer look at feathers, nests and different sizes and shapes of bird eggs, the students learned what makes birds different from other animals and adaptations that are crucial for them to survive.
