Physics Department Chair Received Award for 37 Years of Service
Lloyd Makarowitz, PhD, long-time chair of the physics department at Farmingdale State College, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award for 37 years of service to the college. Makarowitz is a resident of Jericho.
Dr. Makarowitz joined the Farmingdale faculty in 1979, as assistant professor of physics; by 1989 he had earned the rank of full professor. He became chair of the physics department in 1981, and is currently serving his 12th consecutive term in that position.
In addition to his Distinguished Service Award, Dr. Makarowitz owns a State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Faculty Service, among the most prestigious awards SUNY bestows on its faculty. He has also been included in seven different Who’s Who titles.
Dr. Makarowitz is a member of several professional organizations, including the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association of Physics Teachers, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Dr. Makarowitz holds three physics degrees: a PhD from the City University of New York; an MA from Columbia University; and a BS from City College of CUNY.
