The South High School Performing Arts Department will present its sixth annual Battle of the Bands on Friday, June 3, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in the school auditorium, 341 Lakeville Rd.
The concert will feature five live bands that will each perform a 15-minute music set. Styles will range from classic rock to pop and alternative music, featuring songs from famous recording artists Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Lukas Graham.
All performers are students in the Great Neck Public Schools. Most of the South High students began their studies in music through Guitar Program, Music Technology, Symphonic Band or Jazz Band. Some learned to play independently.
The winner of Battle of the Bands will receive a $100 gift certificate to Sam Ash Music stores and reserve their place in history on a plaque displayed at South High. A panel of three South High teachers will judge the competition.
Tickets are $5 in advance; $10 at the door. For advance tickets, email Anthony Virgilio, event organizer/music teacher, at avirgilio@greatneck .k12.ny.us.
Virgilio is enthusiastic that this year’s Battle of the Bands will showcase contemporary music in an authentic live-concert setting.
