Recently, the Denton Avenue Drama Club delighted audiences with their fast-paced, humorous production of The Trials of Alice in Wonderland. Based on one of the most popular works in children’s literature, the musical is set in Wonderland’s Courtroom, where Alice is on trial.
The play is full of witty word play and a clever musical score that drives the story narrative. The cast portrayed the popular and quirky characters in the book—the Queen of Hearts as the judge, the Mad Hatter, Caterpillar and White Rabbit as witnesses, Tweedledee and Tweedledum as the attorneys, and the deck of cards as the jury.
Students provided an entertaining presentation of the energetic and comedic delivery of one of the musical highlights, the part when they said, “off with her head!” When Alice finally woke from her dream, the cast and the audience were disappointed that the show had ended. The directors, Alexa Brown and Nicole Metthe, were thrilled and proud of the impressive debt by their young cast of actors and vocalists.
