American Legion Post 1711 Honors Lost Heroes

Mother Nature gave us some difficulty regarding the Memorial Day parades however, nothing was going to hinder Levittown’s efforts of honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
To begin the Memorial Day weekend ceremonies, a group of veterans from American Legion Post 1711 joined the cast of many at Pinelawn National Cemetery on May 28 to plant flags on the graves of veterans. On Memorial Day, prior to the Levittown parade, the Post flagged their own graves in the community at St. John of Jerusalem Cemetery on Wantagh Avenue in North Wantagh.MemDay_060816A

As for the Levittown parade, that went off without a problem and Mother Nature cooperated. American Legion Post 1711 and Levittown’s VFW Post 9592 were marchiMemDay_060816Bng to pay tribute to fallen soldiers. Also marching were Levittown’s Island Trees schools and clubs. Levittown’s fire and police departments also proudly marched up Hempstead Turnpike.

In closing, a ceremony was performed to honor the fallen heMemDay_060816Croes, those who gave the ultimate sacrifice at Veterans Memorial Park on Shelter Lane.
