Gala Of Stars In New Hyde Park 8K Run

8 K Race_061516BOn Sunday, June 5, the New Hyde Park 8K Championship race made its way through the village. The also featured a fun run for local youngsters. Well over 100 runners came from all over the New York metropolitan area to run for a good cause. Proceeds from the race benefit the Nassau County Firefighters, Operation Wounded Warrior and local youth groups.
Japeth Kiptanui was the top male finisher with a time of 24.59. Victoria Kornieva-Robatalla was the top female finisher. Aaron Robertson finished second among male runners, while Carlos Roa finished third. Shannon Miller finished second among female runners.
The star of the day was Peter Hawkins, who completed the route in a wheelchair at an amazing time of 25:43.
The day featured championship tech shirt, kids shirts, pre and post-race refreshments, post-race food and a post-race raffle. Special awards were given to the male and female finishers who reside in New Hyde Park and Mineola.
