Manhasset Crew Medal At Stotesbury Cup

Rowers from 192 high schools convened in Philadelphia May 20 and 21 to participate in the Stotesbury Cup—the world’s largest high school regatta and second largest regatta in the country.Crew_061516D Held on the historic Schuylkill River, the Stotesbury Cup is rooted in tradition and has been held continuously since 1927. Manhasset Crew was among the 12 New York State entries that medaled out of the 25 that competed.
More than 5,000 competitors from all parts of the United States and Canada gathered at the Athletes Village to experience both the spirit of rowing competition as well as the physical challenge of pitting themselves against the very finest crews rowing at the high school level. Their achievements drew a crowd of nearly 10,000 spectators.
Ten boats competed from Manhasset including Boys’ Freshman 8, Girls’ Freshman 8, Girls’ JV4, Girls’ JV8, Boys’ JV8, Girls’ Lighweight 8, Boys’ Lightweight 8, Girls’ 2V8, Boys’ Varsity 4, Girls’ Varsity 8. It was an exciting two-days of rowing with time trial races, semi-finals and finals. Even with tremendous competition, five Manhasset boats advancing to semi-finals:
Girls’ Freshman 8: Sophie Vincoff, Melanie Moreira, Kate Miller, Mary Nikakis, Mary Kenlon, Emma Brady, Kelly Fitzsimmons, Allison McEntee, Lara McClusker
Girls’ Lightweight 8: Lauren Moschitta, Isabella Caton, Ashley Panzone, Meghan Lyons, Sophia D’Angelo, Irene Karantzios, Stephanie Triantafillou, Sara Wong, Victoria Papadakos
Boys’ Lightweight 8: Buddy Vetrone, Brett Weisberg, Lazarus Ziozis, George Thatos, Mahmoud Khalifa, Ben Kim, Alex Hom, Salvatore Foglio, Chris Yun
Girls’ 2 Varsity 8: Eliza DeSousa, Andrea Crewe, Emily Kiley, Allegra Sodi, Julia Mason, Mary Panetta, Amanda Capra, Maria Fournaris, Soo Bynn Lee
Girls’ Varsity 8: Amanda Kelly, Emma Gillis, Laila Lapins, Kayla Keriazes, Chloe Murphy, Rose Corcoran, Elizabeth Kim, Julia Henry, Arianna Jacono
Three boats advanced to the finals. Manhasset Girls Lightweight 8 took home the Bronze Metal, The Girls Varsity 8 in fourth place and Boys Lightweight 8 came in fifth.
