The Island Trees High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Leiann McGrory, recently visited and performed in Washington D.C. They performed at the Jefferson Memorial and then attended and performed for a master class with Jane Bower Stewart, who is a violinist in the National Symphony Orchestra. The same evening, they attended a performance of the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Osmo Vaneska. Among the pieces performed by the National Symphony Orchestra were Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, and the Brahms Piano Concerto #1 in d minor, featuring pianist Nikolai Lugansky.
The Chamber Orchestra also had a full day of sightseeing, including the Capital, the Library of Congress, the National Botanical Garden, the Smithsonian Castle, the National Museum of Natural History, the Ford Theatre, the National Archives, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the WWII Memorial and Georgetown.
