Beginning on Monday, July 4, with the Garden State Philharmonic, the Great Neck Park District will transform Steppingstone into the perfect outdoor concert venue, providing outstanding entertainment under the stars.
While looking out on beautiful Long Island Sound, guests can listen to music and see cultural performances on weekend evenings through September, starting at 8 p.m., unless otherwise specified. A preview of the summer schedule follows, though all shows are subject to change.
Saturday, July 4: Formed in 1955 by a group of musicians who were determined to provide quality symphonic music to the residents of the Jersey Shore, Garden State Philharmonic is comprised of accomplished musical artists from throughout New Jersey and the tristate area. Saturday, July 9: Yacht Rock Revue will be grooving to the music of the ’70s and ’80s with bands like Hall and Oates, Steely Dan and Toto. Special guest Robbie Dupree (“Steal Away” and “Ain’t Nothin’ Gonna Break My Stride”) of ’70’s pop fame will be making a special appearance.
Sunday, July 10: Safam has dominated the Jewish-American musical scene since 1974, playing a mix of rock, pop Chassidic and more.
Saturday, July 16: Michael DelGuidice & Big Shot: Celebrating the Music of Billy Joel will be featured. DelGuidice, who tours with Billy Joel, plays acoustic guitar, sings vocals and is backed by dynamic seasoned musicians.
Sunday, July 17: Featuring half of the soft rock duo of Loggins & Messina, the Jim Messina Band will perform many of the greatest hits from throughout Messina’s extensive career.
Saturday, July 23: The cast of Beatlemania has performed worldwide, recreating the sights and sounds of the Beatles throughout the years.
Sunday, July 24: Hear Angelo Babbaro: Sinatra Tribute and discover how Babbaro’s voice is uncannily close to the real thing as he sings Frank’s best, including “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Luck Be a Lady” and more.
Saturday, July 30: McClean Avenue Band & Emerald Fire are musicians and dancers that create the very best in Irish songs, Celtic fairytales and dynamic originals.
Sunday, July 31: The North Shore Music Festival will present Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, which is sung in Italian and staged along with a live orchestra.
Saturday, Aug. 6: Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, who’s best known as one of the lead vocalists of Jefferson Starship and Starship, will perform hits such as “We Built This City,” “Sara” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.”
Sunday, Aug. 7: Dave Sear will host as Songwriters by the Sea, featuring Joe D’Urso, Nicole Atkins and Mike Peters, lead singer of the ’80’s band The Alarm, perform.
Saturday, Aug. 13: In honor of the Park District’s 100-year anniversary, the Band of Long Island with Michael Flamhaft as conductor will feature music from every decade from 1916 through 2016.
Sunday, Aug. 14: Celebrate the Park District’s 100-year anniversary with Tusk—The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute when the group performs Fleetwood Mac hits, such as “Landslide,” “Rhiannon” and “Go Your Own Way.”
Saturday, Aug. 20: This Cuban singer/ songwriter and his band, Gerardo Contino y Los Habaneros, will have concertgoers up on their feet dancing to the Latin beat.
Thursday, Aug. 25: Summerfest—A Musical Under the Stars, with Musical Director Pam Levy, choreographers JoJo Conley and Beth Jucovy from Dance Visions NY, will present dance and musical performances by talented local artists. Opera singer Jessica Fishenfeld will be featured and Shirley Romaine will narrate.
Saturday, Aug. 27: Plaza Productions will present A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, one of the funniest Broadway musicals ever written, with a score that includes “Comedy Tonight,” “Everybody Ought to Have a Maid” and more.
Sunday, Aug. 28: A Persian concert featuring Black Cats, an Iranian pop music band that combines jazz, R & B, hip-hop, rave and rap influences, will be held at North Hempstead Park, 175 West Shore Rd. in Port Washington, in partnership with the Town of North Hempstead.
Saturday, Sept. 3: Groove to one of the leading vibes and marimba voices of today, Arthur Lipner & Brazilian Vibes.
Sunday, Sept. 4: Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway is back by popular demand. The audience will hear the music of Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers & Hammerstein and more, performed by a cast of Broadway stars accompanied by an all-star band.
All performances are for Great Neck Park District residents only. Admission is free with a valid park card, which will be checked when parking and at the gate. Each park card holder is allowed to bring two guests into the park, who must be signed in. Free bus service continues to be available to Steppingstone and return buses start 10 minutes after the show ends.
