Mark your calendars. FunDay Monday has officially returned for the 2016 season. This popular, free senior program, held at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington, takes place every Monday from July 11 to Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Organized and hosted by the Town of North Hempstead’s Department of Community Services, FunDay Monday offers the opportunity for hundreds of seniors from across the town to gather for games, music, dancing, entertainment and exercise. The program’s most widely attended events are the Health Fair on July 25 and HomeTown USA on Aug. 29, which honors the nation’s veterans.
A farmers market will return for the second consecutive year, where seniors can purchase fresh local fruits, vegetables and other foods, beginning each Monday at 12:30 p.m. Also back for the second straight year is the Books at the Beach club, where participants lead a discussion about a book selected by the town. Discussions will take place on July 18 and Aug. 15. Registration is required.
New to FunDay Monday this season:
The Hempstead Harbor Trail Walk, guided by Eric Swenson, executive director of the Hempstead Harbor Protection Committee, from 9 to 10 a.m. on July 18 and Aug. 15. This relaxing stroll will provide information on the rich history and great value of North Hempstead’s beautiful shoreline.
Mindfulness Coloring will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Monday. This program allows participants to fine-tune their focus, exercise motor skills, release stress and anxiety, and relax and have a good time.
Advance registration is required for the Hempstead Harbor Trail Walk and Mindfulness Coloring by calling 311.
