Senator Jack M. Martins is inviting local families to participate in his annual summer reading program. The program helps promote literacy and encourages children to continue reading during the summer months.
“Reading is not something that should only be done during the school year; it’s important for children to read during the summer as well to continue building their skills,” said Martins. “This program encourages children to continue reading and using their imaginations by making it fun and enjoyable. I invite all families to participate.”
Martins’ summer reading program is open to all elementary school students in his Senate district. To complete the program, participants must read at least three books and write a brief description of them in a summer reading journal. Once children fill out their journal and have it signed by a parent, they can send it back to Martins’office to receive an official New York State Senate certificate.
Parents interested in having their children participate in Martins’ summer reading program can obtain a summer reading journal by calling his office at 516-746-5924 or visiting his website, www.martins.nysenate.gov.
