A team of Manhasset fourth-grade boys (Manhasset 2024) will be participating in a 24 hour-long lacrosse tournament on July 21 to July 22, at the Field of Dreams in Massapequa called “Shootout for Soldiers” (SOS)—24 hours, one game, one goal. Support Our Troops. Funds raised by SOS–Long Island will benefit four incredible organizations: Army Ranger Lead the Way Fund, Team Red White & Blue, Semper Fi Fund and the Gary Sinise Foundation. SOS helps fund different programs that support veterans in a host of ways. It is a great cause that helps those who serve our country. In addition to the event held on Long Island, Shootout for Soldiers holds events all over the country including Massachusetts, Maryland, Georgia, Texas, Ohio, Colorado and California.
The Manhasset 2024 team will be coached by two Manhasset lacrosse alumni Bobby Duvnjak (Harvard Lacrosse, 2016) and Ryan Matthews (Cornell, 2016).
The boys have been working hard raising funds and are currently in third place for most money raised thus far for the Long Island event, and they will continue their efforts in the final weeks leading up to the tournament. It has been a great way for the boys to combine their love of lacrosse with helping others. Join the boys from Manhasset 2024 in supporting Shootout for Soldiers. Manhasset 2024 will be dedicating their game to the veterans who have touched the lives of their friends and family. With your donation, we invite you to give us the name of a veteran you would like to honor. You can donate directly at www.crowdrise.com/manhasset-2024.
Email the name, era and branch of service of the veteran(s) you would like to honor to annevoelker@gmail.com.
The boys will be wearing the names of these veterans on their jerseys during their game on Thursday, July 21. Consider donating to the cause.
