The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Levittown-Island Trees Post 9592 held their monthly membership meeting on Aug. 12. It was during this meeting that representatives from the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Hicksville 1931 Lodge addressed the membership and presented to the Post a magnificent donation to help further the mission of the VFW. The Elks is an organization that invests in the community through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug free, by undertaking projects that address unmet needs, and also by honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans.
Exalted Ruler, Richard SanFillippo; along with Leading Knight, Gordon McDaniel; Esquire Robert Coffin and trustee Marge McDaniel, presented to Post Commander Matthew DeGregorio a check for $2,000. On behalf of VFW Post 9592, Commander DeGregorio with great appreciation, accepted the generous gift and remarked that the money will be divided amongst the various Post programs that provide assistance to local veterans and support for those currently serving on active duty, especially the soldiers, sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen that are deployed overseas.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks have two different missions. However, they rely on the same important source to help them complete their respective missions. Human resources or membership is that vital and important source that powers these organizations. If you are interested in becoming a member of either organization or you just want more information such as purpose, mission or eligibility, visit www.vfw.org or call the Levittown Post at 516-579-4420 for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. For the Elks, visit www.elks.org or call the Hicksville 1931 Lodge at 516-798-8422.
