NCTE Writing Award Winners

Four Great Neck high school  students received the 2016 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement Awards in Writing. Rachel Berkower and David Liu are the North High School winners, and Yiqing (Elissa) He and Benjamin Newman are winners from South High. All were nominated by their respective English departments for this honor and received award letters and certificates of commendation.

Each student submitted two pieces of writing that were read by national judges. Papers were judged on content, purpose, audience, tone, word choice, organization, development and style.

The Achievement Awards in Writing, established in 1957, are designed to encourage high school students in their writing and to publicly recognize some of the best student writers in the country.
