Friday, Sept. 9

Preschool Storycraft
Register online for this class taking place the Fridays of Sept. 9, 16, and 30 at 11 a.m. for ages 3-5. Some stories and a simple craft.

Apple Pie Bread
This 1 p.m. class will demonstrate how apple pie, an all-time favorite, can be made into a delicious moist bread with a streusel topping. Registrants must bring a 9x5x3 pan, large mixing bowl, box grater, and potato peeler. Register online. No fee. Limit: 40 adults.

Writing Club
The Hicksville Public Library Writing Club meets at 1:30 p.m. and offers a writing lesson, an in-class writing prompt, and the opportunity to read and critique both it and any longer pieces penned at home. Those with all levels of experience, including beginners, and interests in all genres are welcome.

Monday, Sept. 12

Monday Movie
At 1:30 p.m., the library will present My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. Rated PG-13, 94 minutes. Parenting and marriage is becoming tougher and tougher for Toula (Nia Vardalos) and her husband Ian.

Nutrition, Meal Planning
At 7 p.m., Laura Binder-Hines, local registered dietitian, will present simple and easy ways to plan every meal to achieve a balanced diet every day. Good nutrition is not just for people who want to manage their weight. Incorporating a well-balanced diet can help a person feel more alert and productive, strengthen the immune system and give other benefits. No registration required.

Tuesday, Sept 13

Current Events
Moderated by Jim Coll at 1 p.m. The goal of this monthly program is to have open discussions of political, legal and social issues and raise awareness of current events in an informal setting. Active participation is encouraged.

Defensive Driving
This is a two-part class which will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 13 and Thursday, Sept. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. each night. Fee is a $27 check or money order made payable to Empire Safety Council. Class limit: 40.

Creative Art
Register online for this program for ages 5-8. Collage and decoupage are great ways to create a background for a funky animal painting. This is a two-week project held the Tuesdays of Sept. 13 and 20 at 7:15 p.m. Material fee is $4.

Wednesday, Sept. 14

Author Visit
At 1 p.m., seven-time award-winning author and historian Kerriann Flanagan Brosky will make an appearance during the Book Discussion that will feature her latest book, Historical Haunts of Long Island. Books are available approximately four weeks before each discussion. All who read the book are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Jump for Joy
Register online for this program taking place the Wednesdays of Sept. 14, 21 and 28 at 7:15 p.m. For ages 1½-4. Participants will get to jump as they play along to popular songs.

Studio Art
Register online for this two-part class being held Wednesday, Sept. 14 and 21 at 7:15 p.m. For ages 8-11. Using Picasso’s “The Old Guitarist” as inspiration, students will draw and create a monochromatic collage. Material Fee: $4.

Family Fun Time

ning the Thursdays of Sept 15, 22 and 29 at 10 a.m. For ages 1½ -5 . Enjoy an interactive hour with your preschooler featuring singing, dancing, storytelling, a craft and more.

Poetry Reading
Join the library at 6:30 p.m. for a free poetry reading where the community joins together to hear the spoken word. This event will feature poetry readers followed by an open mic session. No registration required.
