CROP Hunger Walk
Join Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of East Meadow and other local parishes and organizations for a one- or two-mile walk to benefit Church World Service’s food drive at Eisenhower Park. Registration begins at 10 a.m. in the Dogwood area of Parking Field 1 and the walk begins at 11 a.m. Snacks and music follow the walk. Levittown schools and Island Trees schools are closed in observance of Columbus Day.

Kids Movie: The Haunted Mansion
Come enjoy a movie on the big screen. Bring your own snacks and drinks. Each child must have a permission slip on file. Ask at the circulation desk for a permission slip after registering. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a grownup. From 4 to 6 p.m. in the ITPL community room. (2003; PG, 88 mins).

AARP Defensive Driving
AARP Smart Driver Program will run from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. in the ITPL community room. The program is open to all ages and costs $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers. Checks/Money Orders are to be made payable to AARP and handed to instructor on day of program. No cash will be accepted. Save up to 10 percent on your car insurance. Bring a New York driver’s license, a pen and a Check Payable to AARP. It is suggested you bring lunch and a sweater if needed.

Free Flu Shot Immunization
This program is sponsored by NuHealth, with coordination of the LPL and is for seniors 60 and older. Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled appointment. There is no out of pocket expense for the immunization for any senior citizen, 60 years of age and older, and their spouse or caregiver. Bring proper identification, a Medicare card or other primary insurance card. It is not necessary to have insurance to receive a free flu shot. The pneumonia shot will also be available. Must register for an appointment. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Artist Reception
The LPL will showcase the artwork and paintings of Nick Zules throughout the month of October. The artist reception begins at 7 p.m.

Friday Cinema: Me Before You

October is Fire Prevention Month
Members of the Wantagh Fire Department have been visiting area Elementary Schools to present Fire Prevention programs to the students. All residents of the Wantagh Fire District are invited to attend an annual open house on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Wantagh Fire Headquarters, 3470 Park Ave., Wantagh.
