Juniors Honored

The Mineola Junior Fire Department recently made its annual trip to the Firemen’s Home in Hudson, NY. The home, set against the naturally beautiful backdrop of the Catskill Mountains, provides quality healthcare, rehabilitative therapy, daily social activities and special events. The juniors have gone every year for the past 20 years, and always make a donation to the home to help the costs for the residents.

The home fosters the volunteer firefighter lifestyle, encouraging members’ memories of the service to live on in their stories told to one another or to visitors that come to the home. The old-timers have plenty to talk about their time in the fire service. More than 400 firefighters and 120 junior firefighters from Nassau and Suffolk County were on hand to celebrate Long Island Day. After a short parade there were ceremonies where dignitaries of New York state and the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York cited the Mineola Junior Fire Department for being selected as the top youth group in New York for 2016. The juniors received a rousing round of applause from the spectators present.
