Lake Ronkonkoma Nursing Home Resident Killed Roommate, Cops Say

A 73-year-old man was arrested for beating his 82-year-old roommate to death at an adult home in Lake Ronkonkoma over the weekend, Suffolk County police said.

Lake Shore Adult Home staffers found Francis McCaffrey unresponsive in his room at the facility on Lake Shore Drive at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, police said. Investigators determined that Roger Diamond repeatedly struck the victim, causing his death, police said.

Diamond fled the scene by jumping 15 feet out of a second-floor window, police said. He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries and charged with second-degree murder. He will be arraigned at a later date.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone with information on this case to call them at 631-852-6392.
